Coyote & Crow is heading back to Kickstarter with Legends & Icons, a new sourcebook for the award-winning sci-fi fantasy tabletop RPG. The supplement adds over 100 new beings to the Fifth World, featuring everything from high-tech assassins and magic-wielding militiamen to living curses and sentient machine spirits.
Designed by an all-Native team of writers and artists, Legends & Icons has already far surpassed it’s initial crowdfunding goal and is running from now until March 10th on Kickstarter. Below, we take a closer look at what’s included in this new bestiary.
Coyote & Crow is a science-fantasy tabletop RPG set in an alternate timeline where colonization of the Americas never occurred and a global climate catastrophe reshaped history. Shortly after this planet-wide natural disaster, a mysterious purple mark known as “The Adanadi” (or The Gift) also began to appear, granting superhuman abilities and mystical powers.
Now, centuries later, Indigenous civilizations in the Americas have flourished, becoming technologically advanced, culturally rich societies in the current year of 2112. The result is a setting that blends cyberpunk aesthetics, techno-magic, political intrigue and Indigenous spirituality. While the game is thematically inspired by TTRPGs like Shadowrun, it’s much more hopeful in tone, leaning heavily into a solarpunk aesthetic.

Mechanically, the game uses a d12 dice pool system, with the number of dice available based on a stat (like Intelligence or Strength) plus a skill rating. Rolls are made against a target number (typically an 8 or higher) with a 12 resulting in a critical success (allowing players to roll an additional “Critical Die” for more potential benefits). Hitpoints are also divided between Body, Mind and Soul, with each aspect having a different impact on gameplay. Characters are also defined by customizable perks and drawbacks (known as Gifts and Burdens), which are often tied to their background and lean heavily into the spiritual aspect of the game.
The game also doesn’t use traditional XP or level advancement. Instead it uses what it refers to as the Legendary System, with characters advancing by completing short- and long-term goals. As part of this system, players are also encouraged to write or narrate a short story about their adventures, cementing their character’s “legend” in the game world.
Notably, Coyote and Crow was released in 2022 after a successful Kickstarter generated over $1 million USD in funding. It’s also been widely praised among both fans and the TTRPG industry itself, wining a 2021 Nebula Award for Best Game Writing, a 2022 Origins Award for RPG Core Rules and the 2023 Diana Jones Award for Gaming Excellence.
Legends & Icons is a new bestiary and NPC supplement that features 100 new entries for the Coyote & Crow RPG. Each entry consists of a two-page spread that includes full-color artwork, in-depth lore, adventure hooks and stat blocks. Notably, the book organizes entries in a few different ways:
It also distinguishes between Legends (organizations such as secret cults, collectives of spirits, political factions) and Icons (named NPCs who have fully detailed stats and narrative presence in the setting).

Examples featured in the Kickstarter campaign include, the Quill Fist (an unstoppable, spine-covered nature spirit), The Eternal Mouths (a horrifying entity screaming in a thousand languages), Salteyes (underwater-dwellers who’ve become hostile to outsiders) and Kisihoto (a legendary assassin rumored to have killed hundreds).
The book’s authors have noted that some entries do draw inspiration from real-world Indigenous myths, but they’ve been carefully adapted to respect these origins.

The primary draw of the Kickstarter is the Legends & Icons sourcebook itself, although there is the option to pick up the existing Coyote & Crow core rules for a discounted price. Backer options include:
Add-ons include extra copies of the book and Storyteller program memberships. Delivery for the PDFs is expected sometime in September 2026, with physical copies likely going out to backers between December 2026 and January 2027.

In a TTRPG market crowded with heroic fantasy and dungeon crawlers, Coyote & Crow has genuinely made a name for itself, standing out from the pack with a solid creative team and a genuinely unique setting. Legends & Icons looks to continue that tradition, offering up a larger glimpse of the strange, deadly and mystical beings of the Fifth World.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this new book in the months ahead. In the meantime, you can back Legends & Icons from now until March 10th, 2026 on Kickstarter.
